Maximize the Possibilities

Regardless of income, any student who wants to be considered for federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs — including grants, scholarships, work-study, and loans — should complete the FAFSA.

1. Prepare Before Filing

Before you begin, there are a couple of things you can do to prepare. 

First, you and your parent(s) will each need to register for your own FSA ID using social security numbers (SSN) and unique email addresses. Learn more about creating your account(s).

Next, gather the information and documents you’ll need handy while filling out the FAFSA—like SSNs, tax returns, and driver’s license numbers. See the list here.

 2. Fill Out the FAFSA 

When you’re ready, log into fafsa.gov to fill out the 2024-2025 FAFSA form. It takes most people less than one hour.

3. Claim Your Spot at UAlbany

Congrats on your acceptance! Now it’s time to make it official and submit your deposit. It will save your spot in the Class of 2028. Plus, the sooner you enroll, the sooner you can get started on exciting next steps—like orientation, housing selection, and course selection!

Our financial aid office will use the information you provided on your FAFSA to determine your eligibility. Soon after, you’ll receive a financial aid offer email, including details about need-based grants, work-study, and federal loans.
